Safety is a primary concern for every government. In a globalized world, digital safety is quickly becoming just as important as it’s physical counterpart. During the Cyber Security Day, participants will have the unique opportunity to deep dive into the current state of cyber security developments within the public sector. During this small scaled event, four key note speakers will share their personal and practical experiences and provide an outlook on future developments, such as AI.
David Chow, Trend Micro
Walter van Oostrum, het CAK
Edwin Moraal, VNOG
Ad Krikke, Gartner
Chief Technology Strategy Officer
We kick start the day with a keynote by David Chow, former CIO at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. David will talk about current developments and threats, including AI, and will conclude his story with a consideration of the current state of government cyber security in the US. In addition, he will talk about the geopolitical implications of these developments, as well as the US elections, on the field of (governmental) cyber security globally.
CISO
After David Chow has identified key threats, Walter van Oostrum, CISO at het CAK, will take the floor to give a key note about how to manage these threats in practice. Walter will share which measures het CAK has put in place to improve security, how he managed to create more awareness and educate employees on cyber threats, and what difficulties he faces as CISO in the process of doing so on a daily basis – all of which may serve as valuable lessons for cyber security professionals in all layers of the public sector.
CISO & Adviseur ICT
But what if things go wrong, and despite all efforts, your organization is hacked? Edwin Moraal experienced a large-scale cyber security attack on VNOG in his role as CISO, and successfully managed to guarantee communication and cooperation with chain partners including mayors, ministries, fellow directors, the NCSC and the VR-ISAC. During the Cyber Security Day 2023, he will give a detailed insight into his lessons learned, ranging from how the attack could have been prevented, to what went right and wrong in setting up a crisis structure.
Executive Partner
To conclude the event, Ad Krikke, Executive Partner at Gartner, will shine a light on the future of cyber security based on the developments as outlined by Gartner. Ultimately, Ad views security as a sustainability theme: to ensure a sustainable business operation on the long term, it is important to take cyber security and data privacy seriously. This involves implementing strong measures to protect data from unauthorized access, ensuring transparency and accountability when using AI systems, and creating a culture of cyber security awareness and continuous improvement of security measures.
