Building on digital technology trends, Shell continues to apply digital technologies to achieve significant benefits in the way projects are executed and plants are operated. Robotics, AI, Big Data, the Internet of Things, advanced analytics and smarter project planning tools are some of the key digital technologies used in Shell's LNG projects and plants to increase efficiency and safety and reduce costs.

In 2019, Shell published a Liquid Natural Gas (LNG) Outlook which stated that LNG projects can be cost-competitive and a cleaner fuel for heavy-duty road transport, shipping and industrial users. In recent years, steps have been taken by means of the economy of scale. Now it is the turn of the digital revolution to take further steps in the oil and gas industry, in which there is still a lot to be gained.
